College Spring Sports : CSUN Doubles Team Gains Final With Win Over Cal Poly SLO
The Cal State Northridge doubles team of Missy Conn and Allison Kincaid rolled into the final of the NCAA Division II women’s tennis championships Saturday at Sonoma State.
The Northridge pair, which has dropped just one set in three matches, defeated Debbie and Tracey Montano of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the championship match at 2 p.m. today.
Conn and Kincaid will meet Southern Illinois’ Christian Dokelund and Porcia George.
BASEBALL
Cal State Northridge 7-18, Cal Poly Pomona 5-4--On Terry Craven’s last day as coach, the Matadors concluded their season with an upset sweep of California Collegiate Athletic Assn. champion Cal Poly Pomona.
The Matadors pounded out 31 hits, including 20 in the second game. Chae-Ho Chong led the assault, going 7 for 10.
Chong’s three-run homer in the second inning of the first game sparked a six-run inning for CSUN (22-33, 12-17 in conference play).
Chong was 4 for 5 in the second game and Scott McIntyre was 4 for 4 with three RBIs. On the day, McIntyre was 5 for 6 with six RBIs.
Mark Anderson was 5 for 9 with two RBIs. Lenn Gilmore was 4 for 6 and hit for the cycle.
