Liza Minnelli will star in a special for ABC on May 31. It’s called “Triple Play” and will be divided into three sections: a drama, written by Lanford Wilson and co-starring Ryan O’Neal; a comedy, written by Terrence McNally and co-starring Lou Gossett Jr., and a musical, written by John Kander and Fred Ebb and co-starring John Rubinstein.

Four NBC stars are teamed in “All My Darling Daughters,” a movie that will be broadcast next season on--you guessed it--NBC. Rue McClanahan of “The Golden Girls” stars as a mother who is intent on finding suitable husbands for her four daughters. They are portrayed by Stepfanie Kramer of “Hunter,” Deidre Hall of “Our House,” Susan Ruttan of “L.A. Law” and Kim Delaney, formerly of ABC’s “All My Children.”

Middle East tensions form the backdrop for “Steal the Sky,” a movie being made for Home Box Office. Mariel Hemingway plays an American who, having been trained by Israel’s Mossad, organizes the theft of a Russian MIG from Iraq. Ben Cross co-stars as an Iraqi fighter pilot. The film is being shot in Israel, Italy and Nevada.

John Hillerman will be back on CBS next season, even though “Magnum, P.I.” has completed its run. He has a prominent role as a former college professor in “Street of Dreams,” a TV movie about a murder investigation. Ben Masters plays a detective on the case and Morgan Fairchild co-stars as what CBS describes as “a woman running from her past.”

Soap opera star Susan Lucci, who played the daughter of an organized crime czar in the prime-time movie “Mafia Princess,” will be seen in another TV movie next season as the head of a crime syndicate. The ABC movie is “Lady Mobster,” and also will star Michael Nader of “Dynasty.” Lucci plays Erica Kane in ABC’s “All My Children.”

“Newton’s Apple” will have a new host when it returns to PBS for its sixth season this fall. He’s David Heil, director of outreach programs and services at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. He’s a former high school science teacher who has degrees in biology and mathematics. Former host Ira Flatow will continue with the weekly program as a guest commentator.

Robert Foxworth, who played Chase Gioberti on CBS’ “Falcon Crest,” has the leading role in “Double Standard,” a movie for NBC about a judge with two wives and two families. The wives will be played by Michele Greene of “L.A. Law” and Pamela Bellwood, formerly of “Dynasty.”

Cliff Robertson has done a one-man show for PBS that is scheduled for broadcast in June. It’s called “Ghosts of ‘87” and has Robertson recounting the convention that drafted the U.S. Constitution. He narrates the story and takes the part of many of the delegates, including Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Benjamin Franklin.

Three days after Memorial Day, CBS will broadcast an hourlong documentary about Vietnam veterans suffering from a disease called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dan Rather will anchor the June 2 program, which features interviews with victims of the disease and reports on how it has affected their families.
