This weekend, while Angelenos basked in the sun and/or fretted over the Lakers, cineastes and other filmsters were chomping high-priced croissants and dodging rain showers on the Cote d’Azur at the Cannes Film Festival. Other weekend festivities: The Samuel Goldwyn Co. convoyed four busloads of tuxedoed and evening-gowned guests to a gala dinner at the famed Edenroc restaurant at Cap D’Antibes, but only after they watched “Heart of Midnight,” starring Jennifer Jason Leigh. The filmic appetizer told the story of a young girl (Leigh) who inherits a run-down brothel from an uncle--who counts child molestation among his less endearing habits.
