Police said Monday they were still interviewing witnesses in an attempt to piece together what led to the stabbing death of a youth in a Panorama City apartment.

Bluefus Davis, 18, was stabbed in the chest with a steak knife Saturday night during an argument with his mother, Sammie McGee, 37, police said. McGee, arrested on suspicion of murder, is being held without bail at Van Nuys Jail.

“They had an argument over money,” Detective Mel Arnold said. “She wanted him to give her some money, and he believed she wanted it for drugs. He wasn’t going to give it to her for that.”

Arnold said detectives had not been able to determine whether McGee wanted the money for drugs, as her son believed. He said Davis, a gang member, was about to leave the apartment in the 14600 block of Parthenia Street when his mother attacked him with the knife.

“It was an unprovoked attack,” he said. “It wasn’t a self-defense thing.”
