USC’s Brown Wins Pac-10 Heptathlon

Wendy Brown of USC won the Pacific 10 heptathlon championship Tuesday for the second consecutive year, and Derek Huff became the first Arizona athlete ever to win the conference’s decathlon title.
Brown, who took the heptathlon as a junior last year with 5,589 points, scored 5,665 this time to outdistance Kelly Peacock of UCLA, who compiled 5,074. Jennifer McEldowney of Arizona was third with 5,048. Camille Jampolsky of Oregon, second after Monday’s competition, had to withdraw because of an Achilles’ tendon injury.
Huff scored 7,659 points to finish ahead of Matt Zuber of Arizona State, who had 7,276. Darrin Harris of Stanford was third with 6,911.
