Out-of-State Players Made the First Move

Share

With reference to the letter from Les Rodney (Viewpoint, May 14), he bases his criticism of John Wooden on the fact that Wooden believes in recruiting at home and yet UCLA had some out-of-state players.

I was a student at UCLA at that time with a part-time job in the athletic department. In each of these cases (Lew Alcindor, Lucius Allen, Walt Hazzard and Henry Bibby), the player or his parents had made the first move and contacted the university.
