The state’s Public Utilities Commission said it will not renew the operating permit of a San Jose charter bus company after a Sierra crash that injured many of the 46 passengers and revealed the driver’s spotty traffic record. The commission’s transportation division is notifying West Coast Line that its permit is being denied because it allegedly failed to review its drivers’ records every six months as required. California Highway Patrol investigators who recommended against renewing the company’s license said the firm also did not carry out required safety inspections every 45 days. Driver Moi Van Le, 30, was cited by the CHP for driving at an unsafe speed during snowy conditions when the April 22 accident occurred on Interstate 80 near Baxter. The CHP said Le braked to avoid striking a jackknifed tractor-trailer and the bus tipped over.
