Carl Lewis Goes 27-9 1/2 in First Jump of Year

HOUSTON —
Carl Lewis leaped 27 feet 9 1/2 inches to win the long jump in the Houston Invitational track and field meet Saturday. Lewis, jumping for the first time this year, was 17 inches off Bob Beamon’s world record.
“I really didn’t feel that great today, competitive-wise,” Lewis said. “But I was able to work out some things that (will) help the rest of the season.”
