BANKING/FINANCE

Compiled by James S. Granelli, Times staff writer

In staffing its Newport Beach office, Boston Safe picked up veteran Orange County banker Raymond W. Haas, who previously worked at Bank of America’s private banking division in Newport Center.

Haas is considered to be well-connected to the business community and to affluent executives who could use the asset management, lending and other banking services offered by Boston Safe.

Before joining Bank of America in March, 1986, he was chairman of American Interstate Bank, also located in Newport Beach. Haas, who helped to form what is now American Interstate in 1973, stepped down as its chairman after joining B of A, but he still owns about 10% of the bank’s stock.
