2 Boys Catch 105 Pounds of Catfish at Castaic Lake

Although the trout and largemouth bass weren’t biting last week at Castaic Lake, it was a big week for young anglers.

Brendan Bailey of Castaic and Mike Brook of Saugus, both 14, caught 11 catfish totaling 105 pounds. They used mackerel from the shore in the upper lake. The fish ranged between from 4 to 19-plus pounds.

Also at Castaic, 11-year old Jay Horvath of Mission Hills caught 6 crappie, 2 bass and 2 bluegill in the lower lake, the largest crappie weighing 1 1/2 pounds.
