The Harry James Band will play at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday with a new director--but old band member--at the helm. Art Depew, a former trumpet player with James, will replace Joe Graves, who recently underwent jaw surgery. Graves replaced James as director after the band leader’s death in 1983. Depew played with 23 bands, in addition to his prior stint in James’ group, but Saturday will mark his first time as leader of the band. “It’s a dream come true,” he said.
