Share

The Burbank Police Department received $209,980 Thursday as its share of the loot from a year-old drug and cash seizure.

The money, distributed under the federal Asset Forfeiture Program and delivered to Police Chief Glenn Bell by U.S. Atty. Robert C. Bonner and Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) was Burbank’s share from the April 21, 1987, seizure of $299,980 in cash and 13 pounds of cocaine during an investigation of a San Fernando Valley drug network.

Glendale police, the FBI and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office also took part in the investigation.

Officials said five Mexican and Peruvian men were arrested during the investigation and later convicted of conspiracy and distribution of cocaine.

Sgt. Don Goldberg said the money that Burbank police received will be used to pay for more personnel and equipment for the narcotics unit. He said some of the cash is also earmarked for anti-drug programs at Burbank schools.
