Concert-Goers Ticketed for Drugs
Police swooped down on heavy metal concert-goers and issued 73 tickets for illegal drug and alcohol use, just hitting “the tip of the iceberg” among possible violators, a police investigator said.
Officers from the Suburban Drug Unit ticketed 55 people--including 15 juveniles--for drug possession, mostly marijuana and some cocaine, at the Friday night concert given by the band AC/DC.
Madison police ticketed 17 people for illegal drinking and one person for possession of a unnamed drug.
It was the second time police conducted the sweeps at the Dane County Coliseum, citing 58 people for drug possession at a March 11 David Lee Roth concert.
“There were lots of drugs at the concert,” said Mike Gehn, an investigator with Madison police.
Gehn said the crowd was not hostile and no one was handcuffed or taken to jail. The fine for illegal drinking is $67 and the drug possession charge is $139.
Police said the tickets, issued inside and outside the Coliseum before and during the performance, were the most ever at the Coliseum.
