Two U.S. Navy crewmen were killed and one was reported missing after an S-3 Viking anti-submarine plane crashed shortly after taking off from the carrier Enterprise in the South China Sea, the Navy said. One crewman was reported in “stable but guarded” condition after being rescued. The accident occurred as the Enterprise was carrying out routine maneuvers 200 miles southeast of Hong Kong. In another accident, two U.S. Marines died when an M-60 machine gun misfired at Camp Hansen on Okinawa, military authorities reported. Names of those killed in the two accidents were withheld pending notification of relatives.
