School Events ‘Sexism’ Seen as ‘Ridiculous’

Share

An article in the May 26 San Gabriel Valley section reported that the state has ordered the El Monte City School District to change its policies after Albert Killackey complained that father-son, mother-daughter events promote sexism and discrimination. How ridiculous can the state get?

According to the Bible, on the sixth day “God created man in his own image . . . male and female created he them.” Or, if one does not believe in the Bible, almost every living thing has evolved with two distinct sexes--for an obvious reason. And, as some Frenchman is supposed to have said, “Vive la difference.”

Men and women are different in more ways than one: We enjoy different physical activities, we enjoy different discussions, we usually play different roles. We desire, and we need, slumber parties for girls only, sororities for women only, a day at the baseball game for boys only, a fraternal organization for men only.

I’ll tell you why I am particularly disturbed by this. Whenever my wife and I attend a social function of married couples, the women invariably gather together at one side of the room to talk, I assume, of matters of import only to women, and the men all gather together on the other side of the room to talk about football, microchips, motorcycles, the golf game, etc.

Well, I’m afraid that any day now, some spy like Albert Killackey is going to penetrate our midst and report us to the state for promoting sexism and discrimination. Heaven help us!
