Share

Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s office will introduce the “Venice Community Vision” project at a meeting of the Venice Town Council at 7:30 tonight in the Old Venice City Hall, 681 N. Venice Blvd.

Venice Community Vision is a committee of residents, businesses, property owners and service organizations that will hire local youth to improve the appearance of the area through graffiti cleanup and other beautification projects.

Young people will be recruited by Community Youth Gang Services, the Neighborhood Youth Assn., Oakwood Recreation Center, the Boys and Girls Club and the Pacific Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. They will be employed at a 20-hour minimum-wage job through the city’s Youth Employment Program. Participants will be able to attend special activities sponsored by Gold’s Gym and will be recognized at an awards program at the end of the summer.

The first project will be to eradicate graffiti along Rose Avenue, Lincoln Boulevard, Venice Boulevard, Windward Circle and West Washington Boulevard. In August, a major cleanup is scheduled for Ocean Front Walk. Other projects will include tree plantings and removal of litter and abandoned cars.
