Cobra Rally Comes Up Short in Detroit
Quarterback Matt Stevens threw three touchdown passes to Wade Lockett in the second half of an Arena Football League game Friday night at Joe Louis Arena, but the Cobras’ comeback effort fell short in a 39-26 loss to the Detroit Drive.
The Cobras (3-4) will play Detroit (4-3) again Thursday night at the Sports Arena.
Los Angeles fell behind, 27-0, midway through the second quarter. Derrick Donald gave the Cobras their first score when he intercepted a pass and returned it 49 yards for the touchdown. It was 33-7 at halftime.
Cobra Coach Ray Willsey said: “To a degree, we were able to come back in the second half, but we had put ourselves in too big a hole.”
Stevens completed 21 of 38 passes for 190 yards.
