Homer in 8th Gives the North a Victory in All-Star Game

Shortstop Brett Jenkins hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to break a 7-7 tie and give the Northern California All-Stars a 9-8 victory in the final game of the California North-South High School All-Star series. The South team had won the first two games of the series at San Diego State University.

Matt Lipscomb of La Habra High School gave up the game-winning home run to take the loss.

The South scored to pull within a run in the ninth and had runners on second and third with one out when Jason Moler of Esperanza came to the plate. But Moler was walked intentionally, and Andy Williams of San Diego Madison grounded into a game-ending double play.

After the game, the 20 players named to the California All-Star team, which will face a team of Oklahoma all-stars in a five-game series beginning Friday at SDSU, were announced.
