Funeral Set for Assemblyman Longshore, 62

A funeral is planned Thursday for Assemblyman Richard E. Longshore (R-Santa Ana), who died last week just one day after being renominated for a second term.

His body will lie in state at the Shannon Donegan Chapel in Orange from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Chapel, 1010 N. Tustin Ave., Santa Ana.

Longshore, 62, died of pneumonia at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, David Longshore; daughters, Rebecca Longshore, Judy Raya and Mary Katherine Mashburn, and three grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Larry Longshore, and sister, Twyla Hawkins.

The family requests donations to the Bethany Christian Academy in Midway City or the Institute in Basic Youth Conflicts in Oakbrook, Ill.

Longshore represented the 72nd Assembly District, which includes parts of Anaheim, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Westminster and Stanton.

Born in Arkansas City, Kan., Longshore had a 31-year career in the Navy before retiring and becoming a real estate broker in Orange County. In 1985, Gov. George Deukmejian appointed Longshore to the California Veterans Board.
