Matthew Cossolotto, a former aide to House Speaker Jim Wright was quoted as saying he thought working on a book written by his boss was “part of my job.” The statement by Cossolotto, published in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, contrasts with statements by Wright (D-Tex.), who said Sunday that Cossolotto had volunteered. Last Friday, the House Ethics Committee announced it was starting a preliminary inquiry into allegations of conflicts of interest in Wright’s financial dealings. Some of the allegations center on the book by Wright, “Reflections of a Public Man.” Cossolotto was on Wright’s staff at the time and Wright has said Cossolotto worked on the book on his own time.
