Universal Television and the National Hispanic Media Coalition are sponsoring a Hispanic Film Program, to develop four short films that “highlight the Hispanic experience” and “enhance the Hispanic image.” Three or four projects will be selected from a nationwide competition, according to Victor Contreras, vice president of the Hispanic Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, one of the organizations in the media coalition. He added that a film with a theme like that in “Colors” probably wouldn’t cut it, but projects like “La Bamba” and “Stand and Deliver” would. A press conference today at Universal City will reveal the plan’s full details, said Armando Duron, president of the coalition. . . . Also of interest to the Latino community: MTV en espanol . “MTV Internacional,” an MTV-produced music video program targeted to Latino viewers, will be broadcast on the Telemundo network (KVEA-TV Channel 52) Fridays at 9 p.m. and is expected to be repeated each weekend. Each program will feature both Spanish- and English-speaking recording artists in current music videos and interviews.
