San Gabriel : Moratorium Extension

Share

City officials say a one-year moratorium on most commercial and residential development may have to be extended so that the city can finish rewriting its general plan. “That was the whole purpose of the moratorium--to give us time to plan the future growth of the city,” said City Councilman Frank Blaszcak.

The City Council voted last week to hire the Anaheim-based Willdan Engineering & Associates to provide the technical expertise for the job, which slow-growth advocates have demanded for more than a year. The firm says that a revised general plan could be completed in as little as nine months.

“I think they’d be miracle workers if they did,” said Blaszcak. The moratorium, which was approved by voters last December, ends in six months.
