Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Mayor Young Honored for Transit Panel Work

Mayor Dan Young has been named Outstanding Public Official of the Year by the county chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.

Young, who was elected to the City Council in 1983 and has been mayor since 1986, is being given the award for his work as chairman of the local division of the League of California Cities’ transportation committee. The committee has studied county transportation in the context of land-use and growth-management issues.

Young will receive his award at a banquet today at the Orange County Medical Assn. Conference Center in Orange. Darrell Essex, city manager of Cypress for the past 26 years, will receive the Outstanding Public Administrator award at the banquet.
