Local News in Brief : Mall Plan in Jeopardy
The developer proposing a 160,000-square-foot addition to the Westside Pavilion shopping center told the Los Angeles Planning Commission Thursday that he will pull out of the project if he is allowed to build only a smaller building, as demanded by Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky and area homeowners.
The commission postponed until later this month a vote on the expansion, which would be across the street from the mall at Pico and Westwood boulevards in West Los Angeles.
The commissioner will also determine if the developer, Westfield Inc., can go ahead with plans to build a 71-foot-wide bridge connecting the existing and proposed buildings.
