Three men have been ordered to stand trial for murder and robbery in the March 31 shooting death of Inglewood Police Sgt. George Aguilar.

Joevone Elster, 22, of Los Angeles, Van Otis Wilson, 21, of Whittier and Patrick Anthony Carr, 20, of Los Angeles were held for trial Thursday by Inglewood Municipal Court Judge Wardell Moss.

The three men are accused of robbing a gas station’s money courier and then killing Aguilar, who was off duty when he pursued them in his car.

Police say the bullet that killed Aguilar was fired by Leslie Holget, 32, who killed himself at the end of a 45-mile chase in Newhall.

Prosecutors said Elster, Wilson and Carr face murder charges because they were accomplices in the robbery. They will be arraigned June 30 in Torrance Superior Court.

Aguilar was the first officer killed in the 80-year history of the Inglewood Police Department.
