Buccheri Signs With the Athletics
Jim Buccheri of Golden West College signed with the Oakland Athletics Friday, a day after being cut during tryouts for the U.S. Olympic baseball team.
Buccheri, selected in the 24th round of the amateur draft, hit .444 and had an Orange County community college record 46 stolen bases last season. He had signed a letter of intent to play at Cal State Fullerton next year.
“It came down between Fullerton and the Athletics, and Oakland’s offer was very good for the round I went in,” Buccheri said.
Buccheri, who will play second base and outfield, will report to Medford, Ore., Oakland’s Class-A team, on Tuesday.
