ULSTER IS ANOTHER COUNTRY

Re your coverage of “The Stalker Affair” (Book Review, May 22 and 29), after 19 years of IRA slaughter in Ireland’s north, I still have to read even one article written in The Times by and about we Ulster Protestant Loyalists. John Stalker was in another country,543450465Catholic populace. I am sure that he (as well as all American journalists) interviewed mainly the IRA thugs, families, wives, associates, and thus built up their biased viewpoints. One asks if Stalker did any interviewing of Protestants at all. Stalker knew nothing about Ulster and what it is like to live amid bombs and gunmen; to be a target every minute of every waking day. That is the lot of the Royal Ulster Constabulary. More unarmed people have been killed here by the LAPD in one year than have been by the R.U.C. in the last 19! Does anyone care? This “utterly English” man should never have been assigned a job of investigating a police force in another country who have been more abused and vilified than any in the entire world.
