Chang, 16, Wins Historic Wimbledon Match
Michael Chang, 16, on Monday became the youngest player in more than 60 years to win a men’s singles match at Wimbledon.
Chang, of Placentia, defeated fellow American Glenn Layendecker, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the opening round. Last year, Chang became the youngest player to win a singles match at the U.S. Open.
Boris Becker was 16 when he won at Wimbledon in 1984, as was Sidney Wood in 1928. But Chang is three months younger than Becker and Wood were when they won at Wimbledon.
