Carole Simpson, an ABC News correspondent since 1982, was named Tuesday as the new permanent anchor of the network’s Washington-based “World News Saturday,” and will start her new job later this summer. Simpson will continue her present assignment--covering the GOP presidential campaign of Vice President George Bush--for the time being, an ABC spokesman said. In addition to her new weekend chores, Simpson will start next fall on a new beat on “World News Tonight,” reporting on social and economic issues facing American families, ABC said.
