Local News in Brief : Politics : 15 Democrats Named County’s Delegates

Fifteen Orange County Democrats will serve as delegates at the Democratic National Convention July 18 through 21 in Atlanta.

Ten of the county delegates are pledged to Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis, who is virtually assured of being his party’s presidential nominee. Among the 10 are two former Orange County Democratic party chairmen--Howard Adler of Laguna Hills and Bruce W. Sumner of Newport Beach.

Other Dukakis delegates are Loretta Walker and Rajan Anand, both of Westminster; Al Ybarra of Buena Park; Leonard Lahtinen of Anaheim; Audrey Redfearn of Laguna Beach; Andrea Montoya of Fountain Valley; Hazel Stover of Orange, and Rita Montes of Santa Ana.

Three county delegates are pledged to the Rev. Jesse Jackson. They are former Santa Ana Unified School District trustee and local party leader Sadie Reid-Benham of Santa Ana; Sami Odeh of Anaheim, and Mae Ussery of Irvine.

Two other local Democrats, developer David Stein of Laguna Beach and union organizer Bruce Lee of Fullerton, both members of the Democratic National Committee, will attend the convention as uncommitted delegates.

Five county Democrats will attend the convention as alternates pledged to Dukakis. They are former state Democratic Chairman Richard J. O’Neill of San Juan Capistrano, Sally Alexander of Huntington Beach, Paul Garza of Fullerton, Melanie Alkoz of Garden Grove and Reuben Martinez of Santa Ana.

There are no alternates pledged to Jackson.
