Local News in Brief : Colleges May Cut Back
- Share via
Officials of the Los Angeles Community College District warned Wednesday that programs at its nine campuses may have to be trimmed next spring to balance a $264-million budget. They projected a shortfall of at least $6 million.
“The bottom line is that our current budget situation is serious,” said Thomas Fallo, the district’s acting chancellor.
The main problem is a 3% drop this past year in average daily attendance of students--the yardstick for state funding. Officials said they will not know which cuts to make until the state budget is passed.
