Share

Planned Parenthood of Orange County will receive $47,000 from the state to expand its 3-year-old AIDS education programs for youths and for the Latino community.

The grant from the state Health Services Department is expected to be received July 1, according to officials for the Planned Parenthood office in Santa Ana.

Much of the grant will be used to set up new AIDS education programs for social service professionals who work with youths and in the Latino community, said Sergio Morera, director of education at the chapter.

Planned Parenthood now operates AIDS education programs for young people in drug rehabilitation centers and in Orange County Juvenile Hall, Morera said. The organization also sponsors lectures on AIDS for Latino community groups and for students in English language classes.

Morera said more AIDS education is needed because too few people know the facts about acquired immune deficiency syndrome. “There are people out there who are living in fear,” he said.
