Mar Vista Residents Object to Project
For years, the city of Santa Monica has exemplified for us a government that cares for its people by implementing policies of low-density building, rent control and environmental protection. Now, according to The Times’ article of June 12, Santa Monica is encouraging an office building complex of over 1 million square feet, 4,500 parking spaces and only one access road from Bundy Drive on the Los Angeles side of the airport (a residential neighborhood). Congested streets, noise, air pollution and restricted residential parking will invariably follow, exactly the kind of overdevelopment the city of Santa Monica has opposed so vigorously in the past.
One would expect that you would welcome the efforts of at least one Los Angeles community that is fighting for slow growth and the maintenance of its residential quality. We are deeply disappointed that you justified your support for the project as a retaliation against one Los Angeles community for the past building excesses of Los Angeles City Hall.
Mayor James P. Conn, you led the forces for slow growth for many years. Can’t we work together to achieve a community in which we all want to live?
