Universal Pictures, apparently inspired by its new movie “Midnight Run,” has set up a cross-country charity run to raise money for five national volunteer organizations. The goal of “The Midnight Run for Charity,” which will cover 27 cities, is to raise in excess of $200,000. In the film, Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin trek across the country with the FBI and the Mob not far behind. In the charity run, five two-member teams, each representing a different charity, will depart from New York City on July 10. The teams will be required to travel to Los Angeles by July 15, using trains, buses, cars and their feet. And they won’t be able to use the same cross-country routes. Phone banks will take donations during the race.
