Orange : Wounded Rape Suspect Transferred to Jail Ward
Steven Blemker was transferred Sunday to UC Irvine Medical Center’s jail ward from Anaheim’s Martin Luther Hospital Medical Center, where he was shot twice by a physical therapist after he reportedly tried to rape her.
Martin Luther King spokeswoman Betty Bartley said Blemker, 30, had been under police guard at the Anaheim hospital since Friday, when police said he assaulted the therapist.
The woman he is accused of attacking, whose identity was being withheld, wrested two guns from Blemker and shot him.
When the wounded Blemker tried to flee, the therapist chased him. Hospital workers had already called police, who arrested Blemker at an exit.
Blemker, an Anaheim resident, was listed in stable condition Saturday. He was transferred to the jail ward about 1 p.m. Sunday after his condition had improved further, a police spokesman said.
