Local News in Brief : Countywide : Wisely Harassment Suit Is Ordered Rewritten

Share

A lawsuit filed by jail house lawyer Willie Ray Wisely seeking $10 million for harassment by Orange County Jail employes should be rewritten, a federal judge said Monday.

Wisely spent seven years in the jail, where his legal prowess earned him special accommodations such as a double jail cell. He was transferred to the state prison system last December after he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

U.S. District Judge William P. Gray said the county’s arguments that the lawsuit was not in proper form appeared to be well-founded.

In a related case, Wisely has asked for $2 million in libel damages from a codefendant who testified against him. Both cases are pending in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
