Indonesian OPEC Secretary General Subroto said the oil cartel should work out a program of long-term cooperation with non-OPEC producers as a way to shore up sagging oil prices. He told a news conference before leaving Jakarta for Vienna, where he will take up his new post, that he planned to visit seven non-OPEC producers interested in working with the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to stabilize world prices. He said cooperation could be through a joint committee, at technical or ministerial levels, or through periodic contacts. Talks between OPEC and non-OPEC nations foundered in April.
