Ballesteros Shares Lead at Monte Carlo
Seve Ballesteros, with a late flurry of five birdies in six holes, grabbed a share of the lead Wednesday after the first round of the $374,000 Monte Carlo Open.
Ballesteros shot a 4-under-par 65 over the 5,667-yard Monte Carlo Club course to finish in a four-way tie for first with Jose Rivero of Spain, Jesper Parnevik of Sweden and Andrew Sherborne of Britain.
Ballesteros had a chance at another birdie on the last hole, but his 16-foot putt slid past to the left of the hole.
Mitch Adcock of San Francisco, Joe Higgins of Britain, Mark McNulty of Zimbabwe and Jeff Hawkes of South Africa, had rounds of 66.
