Sand, Sea Club’s Rent Under Review

Share

Santa Monica’s Sand and Sea Club may soon face an increase in its rent to the city should a study initiated by the City Council on Tuesday show that the club is paying less than the fair market rate. The Club pays the city about $120,000 a year for use of the beach property.

“The rent we charge the club is considerably less than the fair market rental rate that it merits,” said Councilman William Jennings, who requested the study.

The council last week chose a noted restaurateur to build a luxury hotel on the land that the Sand and Sea occupies, but it remains unclear when the club would be removed.
