Local News in Brief : Parking Rules Changed

Share

Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky introduced a series of changes Thursday intended to make it easier to park and drive in Westwood Village. The plans include changing the hours that streets are closed on weekend nights, lengthening some parking meter limits and adding better signs to direct motorists to parking lots.

Two years ago, the city began closing the streets of central Westwood to cars on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. to decrease congestion. The new guidelines call for streets to be closed at 9 p.m. instead of 8.

Some parking meter changes were implemented at the request of merchants, including restaurateurs who complained that their customers could not finish their lunches without having their meters expire. Certain meters will be extended during the next six weeks to two hours to make dining less stressful.

Free parking is provided for visitors at the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard on weekend nights, and a shuttle service to Westwood is available for 25 cents.
