Pistons Give Daly New Deal

Share

Chuck Daly, who coached the Detroit Pistons within one game of dethroning the Lakers as National Basketball Assn. champions, has agreed to a three-year contract that makes him the second-highest paid coach in the league.

Larry Brown, who coached Kansas to the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. championship in March, was recently signed to the league’s richest coaching contract by the San Antonio Spurs, a deal that pays $3.5 million over 5 years. Exact terms of Daly’s contract were not disclosed.

In the last few days, Daly turned down a five-year deal to coach the Miami Heat, one of two NBA expansion teams that will begin play next season.
