The Latino film that got away: Robert Ginty originally conceived “The Bounty Hunter”--which he’s just debut-directed--with the Latino community as a backdrop. But foreign investors insisted on a more “American” background--”in Europe that setting was considered foreign, not American.” So “Bounty,” based on a true incident, now has Ginty as the title character befriending an Oklahoma Indian family whose land the local sheriff is trying to secure for an oil company.

“It’s the ultimate American story,” said Ginty, an international star because of “The Exterminator” and other overseas action hits. But, he added, it’s also “a left-wing, liberal action movie.”

Native American actors were employed, said Ginty, and a benefit premiere is planned for the American Indian Theater in Tulsa at the end of the year.
