A teen-age girl was killed Friday night in Santa Ana when she was struck by a bullet fired outside a residence where a birthday party was in progress, police said Saturday.

The victim, identified by the coroner as Ly Hoang, 16, of Anaheim, was pronounced dead at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.

Police said that at about 10:30 p.m. the host of a birthday party for an 18-year-old girl asked four rowdy people to leave the residence, in the 100 block of North Jackson Street.

The four went outside and challenged the host to come out and fight, police said. When he failed to appear, one of the group produced a gun and fired several shots, police said.

One of the bullets passed through the wooden door of the garage, where the party was being held, and hit the girl, police said.

Khoa Nguyen, 15, who lives at the house, said Saturday that he heard the shots but didn’t see the incident. Hoang, he said, was an acquaintance of a friend of his brother.

He said that neither he nor any members of his family knew the four who were ejected from the party. Other family members declined to comment.

Police have made no arrests.
