Peter Jacobsen, seeking his first victory since 1984, shot a 3-under-par 69 Saturday but finished bogey-bogey to have his lead drop from six shots to four after three rounds of the $900,000 Western Open golf tournament at Oak Brook, Ill.

Jacobsen got a 4-iron second shot into a difficult position in a bunker on the 17th and failed to get down in two. On No. 18, his approach was short, then backed down a slope still farther away from the hole. He pitched within five feet but missed the putt.

Jacobsen completed 54 holes in 12-under-par 204.

Dan Forsman (who shot a 71), Dave Eichelberger (68), Bill Britton (67) and Jim Benepe (69) were at 208. Ben Crenshaw shot a 65 to move into a tie at 210 with defending champion D.A. Weibring, who had a 69.

Jose Rivero of Spain shot a 4-under-par 65 for a 261 to win the $374,400 Monte Carlo Open by two strokes over Mark McNulty of Zimbabwe.

McNulty shot a 67, and his $39,720 runner-up check boosted him into the European money lead ahead of Britain’s Nick Faldo.

Severiano Ballesteros of Spain had a 68 to finish third at 266. Ballesteros was even with Rivero after 14 holes but hit into the rough and had a double-bogey 6 at No. 15.
