From our Women of Single Names Department: Rumors are rampant that the erstwhile Boy Toy/Material Girl herself, Madonna (Louise Ciccone Penn), is a very strong candidate for the title role in director Oliver Stone’s film version of the hit British musical “Evita.” A spokesman for the project confirmed Madonna’s status Friday, and the notion of Madonna-as-Evita has been bubbling in the industry tattlers for several days. Barbra Streisand and Olivia Newton-John have also been listed among the favorites to star in the film, a musical biography of Eva Peron, the former first lady of Argentina.
