Veteran stock car driver Bobby Allison left his Allentown (Pa.) hospital room in a wheelchair for the first time since his racing accident June 19.
Ed Gossage, spokesman for Allison’s sponsor, Miller Racing, said Allison has been eating solid foods since early this week. Allison, 51, suffered a concussion and several broken bones in the first-lap accident in the NASCAR Miller 500 at Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. He remains in guarded condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.
