Associated Press

A man convicted of faking a plane crash during a blizzard was sentenced Monday to a year in prison and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Mark Blair, 29, was convicted last May of making a false report to the government, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The radio report of a downed jet with three dead passengers and a badly injured pilot sparked a search that cost $50,000 and involved as many as 100 people, 20 aircraft and 6 police agencies.
