61-Year-Old Coney Island Roller Coaster a Landmark

Coney Island’s Cyclone roller coaster has become the city’s newest landmark. The Cyclone, which was opened in 1927 and has 3,000 feet of wood track, received landmark status Tuesday by a unanimous vote of the city Landmarks Preservation Commission. It ensures that developers will need commission approval before altering or demolishing the ride.
