A spokesperson for the University of Illinois denied a report that the school will pay Athletic Director Neale Stoner $300,000 to resign but said the settlement would be about one-third of the reported figure.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that university officials offered Stoner a settlement of more than $300,000 to step down amid charges that Stoner and other athletic administrators received personal favors from university maintenance workers while on company time. Stoner has also been accused of paying for vacations with athletic department funds.
