Local News in Brief : Police Identify Elderly Woman Killed by Car
Burbank police have identified an elderly woman who was killed when she was struck by a car as she walked across an intersection.
Mary Elizabeth Cates, 83, of Burbank died at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where she was taken shortly after the Thursday morning accident at Olive Avenue and Lincoln Street, Detective Bob Elias said.
The driver of the car, John D. Benson, 33, of Los Angeles, who was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, was released from the Burbank City Jail after posting $2,500 bail.
Authorities said Cates was walking south across Olive Avenue shortly before 10:30 a.m. when she was hit.
